Internship Program
Our internship program is a demonstration of our commitment to mentoring future generations of public interest lawyers. We offer meaningful experience in a variety of compelling areas of law, quality mentoring that values your professional growth, and exposure to an innovative, small firm setting in which to practice as a public interest lawyer.
ABOUT YOU:
Each semester, we hire 1-2 law students or recent graduates to work in our Bay Area office. More important than the law school you attend or your grades, we seek a student who has demonstrated a commitment to public interest law and who intends to practice in this field. Prior experience working on behalf of low income communities or communities of color is preferred. We seek someone who takes their work seriously, yet knows how to have fun, is eager to learn, and values constructive feedback.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Our interns are exposed to a variety of substantive areas in both criminal and civil rights law. Interns work on cases at various stages of litigation, as well as appeals. Intern assignments are based not only on the needs of our firm, but also on the interests of our interns. We assure that all interns receive assignments that reflect a variety of legal skills, which may include interviewing clients, factual investigation, legal research and writing, drafting pleadings, discovery requests, and briefs, second-seating depositions and oral arguments, and coalition building. Quality mentoring is a priority at our firm – interns receive feedback on a regular basis and we conduct two-way evaluations to discuss the progress of our work together.
We regret that this position is unpaid at this time. However, in exchange for your hard work, our interns are provided with a meaningful experience that values their contributions and your professional growth. Interns are hired on a part-time basis during the school year and on a full-time basis during the summer. We require a commitment of at least ten weeks for all internships.
